How to Make Cookie Dough?
Here are the steps to prepare the cookie dough.
Step 1: Put the butter, brown sugar, and white sugar in the mixing bowl and use the spatula to mix them thoroughly. Make sure that there are no clumps of sugar in the butter. Be very cautious about using room-temperature butter. Fold the sugars in the butter gently. Do not mix too fast as it will cause the butter to thin out too much. Make sure that all of the sugars are dissolved in the butter properly. I get my hands dirty and check with my fingers to find any clumps of sugar and then break them down.
Step 2: Now break the egg and mix it with the sugar and butter. Break and mix one egg at a time if you are using double or triple the measurements of this recipe. Make sure to mix the egg thoroughly with the butter and sugar.
Step 3: Put half of the flour, baking soda, and cornstarch in the mix and slowly mix them. Do not hurry in this step as it will cause flour to get everywhere and make a mess. Fold the dry ingredients gently with the wet ingredients. Make sure to avoid overmixing. Overmixing will form gluten and make the cookies taste more like bread.
Step 4: Mix the rest of the flour, a pinch of salt, a pinch of coffee, and the chocolate chip cookie in the mix and gently fold them. Mix flour in small amounts to make it easier for you to mix. Mix everything thoroughly. The batter might become too thick and hard to mix at this stage but this is how things are supposed to be. Be patient and mix everything slowly and gently until the mix is homogenous.
How to Store the Cookie Dough?
Soring the cookie dough in the fridge for at least 2 hours is a mandatory step to make sure that your cookie tastes flavorful. The ingredients need to incorporate with one another, release flavor, and form structure, and storing the dough in the fridge is the only way to make sure of it.
You can put the entire bowl in the fridge for storing overnight. This will also harden the dough which will be helpful while we shape and bake the cookies.
After keeping the entire bowl in the fridge for a few hours, you can take it out and make small balls of dough and store them in the fridge in ziplock bags again. This will remain good in the fridge for several weeks and you can just put them in the oven and make instant warm and delicious cookies.
How to Bake the Cookies?
Preheat the oven to 374 degrees Fahrenheit or 190 degrees Celsius. No oven truly has the same temperature so set it according to your oven. You might need to use 180 or 200 degrees Celsius depending on your oven’s heat. Set the heating settings for both the top and bottom.
Lay down a baking sheet on the baking tray and use a spoon or ice cream scoop to take batters out from the bowl and use your hand to form balls of cookie dough. You can set the size according to your liking, there is no ideal size for cookies. Arrange them on the baking sheet and make sure to keep enough distance between two dough balls to avoid them getting joined together.
Each batch will need about 17-21 minutes of baking. Keep an eye on the cookies and check for color. Bring them out if they have gotten brown. Adjust the temperature accordingly if the dough is getting burnt or not getting baked sufficiently. The first batch always requires some tweaking of the settings but the next batches will come out perfect.
Take them out after they have been baked and place them on a plate or cooling rack. You can store them in a cookie jar after they have cooled down to room temperature.
Things to Keep In Mind
While baking delicious chocolate chip cookies, there are some things you need to be careful about to avoid ruining the cookies.
The first thing is to always use room-temperature butter and eggs. Make sure to keep the butter and the eggs out of the fridge for a few hours before you start the mixing process. This is highly important as cold butter or egg will not provide a good quality cookie dough.
The second thing to keep in mind is to avoid over-mixing the dough. Be very gentle while folding the mixture and do not mix too fast or too long. Mix slowly and gently only up to the point where the mixture is homogenous. Over-mixing will form too much gluten and ruin the overall taste of the cookie.
The third most important thing is keeping the dough in the fridge for a few hours before baking. The best policy here is to keep the dough in the fridge overnight and bake the day after you mix the cookie dough.
And the last thing to be aware of is keeping an eye on the batch while it gets baked in the oven. Make sure to check frequently to ensure that they are getting baked properly and not remaining underbaked or getting burned.
Conclusion
Homemade chocolate chip cookies are simply the best baking item you can make at home easily with very few ingredients and by following some very easy instructions. Do not forget to use the secret ingredient that will turn the taste of your cookies truly magical, love.
